OUR WORK IN ANGOLA

Country Profile

Angola's history is marked by significant events that have shaped its current socio-economic landscape. The country endured colonial rule under Portugal from the late 15th century until independence in 1975. Shortly after gaining independence, Angola was plunged into a devastating civil war that lasted from 1975 to 2002.

These conflicts left deep scars on the nation, impacting all aspects of life, particularly for women and girls. Today, women constitute approximately 52% of the Angolan population. Despite being a majority, they face numerous challenges, including high rates of unemployment, which stands at around 30% for women. Additionally, a significant portion of the female population lives in extreme poverty, with limited access to essential services. Over 30% of Angolan women suffer from gender-based violence, encompassing domestic violence, sexual harassment, and other forms of abuse. Furthermore, the country struggles with high illiteracy rates, with around 40% of women being unable to read or write.

OUR WORK IN ANGOLA

Femme Incroyable has been actively supporting Angola through cooperation with various local entities. Our initiatives focus on providing crucial support in education, mentorship, and vocational training.

By partnering with local organisations, we aim to empower Angolan women and girls, helping them to overcome barriers and build a more equitable society. Our work emphasises sustainable development and social justice, striving to create lasting positive impacts in the lives of women across Angola.

Women’s Empowerment
The empowerment of women is a critical aspect of social and cultural transformation worldwide. In Angola, women are gradually gaining more visibility in public spaces, yet there is still much progress to be made. Empowering women contributes significantly to sustainable rural and urban development and the overall growth of the economy and society. This empowerment is achieved through professional training, job creation, education, protection against social injustices, amplifying women's voices, and providing them with the information they need to change their lives.

Femme Incroyable has been instrumental in its mission to equip more women to take on their unique roles in society. By providing funding, expertise, and volunteer support, Femme Incroyable has enabled the successful implementation of projects and campaigns focused on promoting the professional and intellectual empowerment of Angolan women.
