Our mission is to support women and girls in marginalized communities in Portuguese-speaking Africa and in Belgium through education, entrepreneurship, and mentorship, fostering sustainable change and strengthening Europe-Africa collaborations to amplify impact.
Breaking the Cycle of Exclusion
In Portuguese-speaking African countries (Angola, Cabo Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, and São Tomé & Príncipe), women and girls face serious obstacles to education, work, and opportunity. In Angola, for example, UNICEF (2025) reports that 18 % of women have never attended school, with literacy rates at only 65 % for women. Moreover, 30 % of women aged 25–49 marry before 18, which often forces them to leave school early and restricts their economic opportunities later in life. Women are also far more likely than men to work in informal, low-paid, and unstable jobs, keeping them trapped in cycles of poverty.
These countries (except Mozambique) also receive less international development support than other African nations, leaving programs in education, skills development, mentorship, and entrepreneurship under-resourced. Without these opportunities, women and girls struggle to transform their potential into meaningful economic and social participation.
In Belgium, immigrant women, especially those from outside the European Union, face similar barriers. Only about half (49 %) of non-EU women are employed, compared with 75–79 % of Belgian women. Barriers like language, unrecognized qualifications, caregiving responsibilities, and discrimination make it harder for them to find work, learn new skills, or start businesses.
Femme Incroyable exists to change this. We provide mentorship, vocational skills training, entrepreneurship support, education sponsorship, and access to professional networks, equipping women and girls with the tools and opportunities they need to achieve independence and take control of their lives and communities.
Beyond hard skills, we focus on building confidence, leadership, assertiveness, communication, problem-solving, and resilience, qualities that formal education often does not provide but are essential for succeeding in life.
