Being a girl or woman in Guinea-Bissau means facing immense challenges. The majority of women live in extreme poverty, forced to support their families by selling vegetables, fish, or clothing in markets and on the streets.

Girls are often denied formal education and subjected to early and forced marriage, domestic violence, and female genital mutilation (FGM). These issues significantly hinder their autonomy and opportunities for self-determination in this West African country.
